Made of fiber optic glass, these beautiful, handmade Cat's Eye Marble Spheres have a bright streak running through the middle when light hits it. They are being sold in singles from a variety of 8 different colors. These stunning round cabochons get their name from the way they refract light, resembling the oblong center of a cat's eye. They are quality grade fiber optic glass with brilliant color. Truly impressive to behold, they measure approximately 16mm or close to 5/8th's of an inch. Perfect for marble games, marble runs, marble racing, or simply to display in your collection. Includes 1 stainless steel, ring style, washer type display stand per marble purchased. These stands will keep your marbles from rolling and will not distract from the marbles. Choice of Colors: Black Gray/White Moss Green Light Blue Light Purple Pink Orange Tri Color (Green, Orangish/Red, and Blue) Cat's eye is a man made, synthetic gemstone material; however, it didn't start out that way. It was a by-product of a material manufactured for the telecommunications industry--photo optic glass. Tiny hair-like strands of pure glass are drawn from glass rods by a high tech, fiber drawing tower. Some of the glass fibers are more than a mile long and are wound on spools. The strands are used in telecommunications to make photo optic cable that transmits light signals at the speed of light over long distances. Thousands of these hair-sized strands are pressed together under heat and pressure to form thick plates of fiber optic glass. Lapidary artisans use this special chatoyant glass to cut and polish beautiful eggs, spheres, beads, jewelry and art objects. Lighting such as flash photography can greatly effect the look of a marble as can holding the marble under different types of lighting can make the color look slightly different.
